Four of Washington DC's Finest Luxury Neighborhoods
Washington DC Real Estate
Premier Washington DC Luxury Real Estate
Washington DC is home to many extraordinary neighborhoods. But when it comes to living in luxury in the DC area, there are four neighborhoods which always seem to be at or near the top of everyone's lists: Woodley Park, Cleveland Park, Georgetown and Kalorama. Not only are the homes, grand townhomes and coops in these neighborhoods filled with wonderful amenities and sometimes historic architectural details, but their owners enjoy easy access to a number of fine restaurants and shopping opportunities as well as to some of the country's most significant landmarks. (picture below:Georgetown, DC townhomes)
1. Woodley Park
Straddling Connecticut Avenue, which is one of DC's main thoroughfares, Woodley Park is one of the most established and popular residential areas in the capital city. This unique community, which features a number of historic homes, can also offer a surprising level of solitude, considering that it is only minutes away from several active retail and entertainment districts. This peace and quiet is made possible partially by the existence of the 117-year-old National Zoo, which features conservation land covering more than 163 treed acres, and is located to the east of the neighborhood.
2. Cleveland Park
Named in honor of Grover Cleveland, the Cleveland Park neighborhood is an attractive residential area that is still brimming with New England charm. In fact, a number of 19th and 20th century homes, embassies and mansions can still be found throughout the neighborhood's tree-lined streets. Even the commercial buildings located in the neighborhood are of historical significance. For this reason, the neighborhood was designated as a historical district in 1987. Some popular landmarks located in the neighborhood include The Uptown Theatre, the Rosedale Conservancy and the Broadmoor cooperative.
3. Georgetown
Offering historical homes and hillside views, the Georgetown neighborhood is quite possibly the most famous and well-recognized in the DC area. In addition to its abundant natural beauty, which includes views of the bluffs that overlook the Potomac River, the Georgetown neighborhood is also home to numerous high-end shops, historical buildings and restaurants. Georgetown University, which dates back to 1789, is also found in the neighborhood, as are many foreign embassies and several popular filming locations. Sitting on the Potomac River, Georgetown has also been extremely attractive to developers who have built high-end condominiums with terraces and river views.
4. Kalorama
Located to the east of Rock Creek Park, the Kalorama neighborhood is probably best known for its luxurious townhomes, as well as some if the city's most glamerous cooperatives. It is also a neighborhood that has kept a generous amount of green space. Although the neighborhood consists mainly of townhomes and apartments, it is also home to some very luxurious mansions and embassies. With many well known elected officials and cabinet members owning homes in the neighborhood, real estate in Kalorama is always in high demand. In fact, it is not uncommon for homes to sell purely by word of mouth.
There are many other DC Luxury Neighborhood I could include in this list. But like always, I'd like to hear from you. Thoughts on other special neighborhoods in Washington DC?
