Lauren & Edgemoor in Downtown Bethesda SkylineDowntown Bethesda has quickly become a destination area that is known for its great restaurants, boutique shopping, live music venues, movie theatres, easy metro access and great housing options.  As recently as the early 1990s, the very popular block on Woodmont (between Elm and Bethesda) was truly still a sleepy corridor.  And nearby, land that now holds popular meeting spots, was still parking lots and vacant spaces.  There were very few people living in the blocks between Arlington and Woodmont and Edgemoor and Hampden.  Montgomery Lane was a relatively sleepy street that was lined with small, single family homes most of which were being used by doctors or lawyers for office space.
