More About Friendship Heights!

Friendship Heights, officially a part Chevy Chase, DC, is an upscale residential and commercial area, extending beyond the Washington, D.C. boundary into Montgomery County, Maryland. The Friendship Heights commercial area, near the intersection of Wisconsin and Western Avenues, attracts shoppers with destination retail outlets like Versace, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Tiffany & Co. Several large companies are also headquartered in Friendship Heights, including insurance giant GEICO, and the Ritz-Carlton hotel chain. A special taxation district, called the Village of Friendship Heights, has been created in Maryland outside the D.C. boundary to accommodate local businesses and residents.

Quick commuter access throughout Washington is afforded via the city Red Line Friendship Heights Station, which straddles the D.C. Montgomery County border on the 5400 block of Wisconsin Avenue.  

Friendship Heights Single Family Homes, Row Homes & Condos  

Single family homes in Friendship Heights are hard to find in the D.C. corridor of Friendship Heights (yes, we know, confusing!).  The vast majority of single family homes are located on the Maryland side.  On the DC side, townhomes (rowhouses), and boutique mid-rise condos are more prevalent.  As one would expect with such a desirable area, the prices in Friendship Heights are some of DC’s highest and continue to see strong appreciation. 

The Somerset House Condominiums 

Probably the most well known in the area is the Somerset House, found just across the DC-MD border in nearby Chevy Chase, Maryland.  Sited on 17 landscaped acres, the Somerset House Condominiums is comprised of three high rise towers totaling over 400 units.  The complex offers its residents every amenity imaginable and, with unit sizes ranging above 4,000 square feet the Somerset House is one of the only condominiums in all of the DC area where you can “downsize” from the suburbs and end up having more square footage!!  Two other phenomenal condo options in Friendship Heights DC include Chase Point -an amenity-rich, upscale building built in 2007 by PN Hoffman located directly across the street from the Friendship Heights Metro Station, and The Harrison, a 49 unit boutique building built in 2010. Regardless of your palette, you’ll find something wonderful to call home here. And depending on how close you want to be to the action, you can choose from a smorgasbord of housing types and locations. Homes sell here extremely quickly.
